Olympic champion meets world champion

Duel of Giants

At Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern on Tuesday, July 9, the javelin will once again be one of the most attractive disciplines that athletics currently has to offer. Olympic and European champion Thomas Röhler (28), will meet world champion Johannes Vetter (26), vice European champion and current number 2 in the world Andreas Hofmann (28), the current number three in the world Bernhard Seifert (26) and the current number 1, the Estonian Magnus Kirt, who wants to defend his last year's victory in Lucerne.

In 2017, Johannes Vetter catapulted himself onto the podium of the "eternal best list" with a throw of 94.44m. He established himself as the second best javelin thrower in the history of international athletics with the new Lucerne meeting record. Thomas Röhler, the filigree technician, also achieved a top performance in the same competition with 89.45m. The entire German squad is eager to throw in Lucerne, because the open stadium often provides excellent wind conditions for the javelin throwers in the evenings. Magnus Kirt (29) wants to be the spoilsport. Last year's winner threw over 90 meters for the first time at the weekend and does not want to allow the German world domination in the javelin to continue in Lucerne. Pure excitement is therefore guaranteed on July 9 in Lucerne's Allmendstadion.

Negotiations with other athletes are in full swing and once again top fields are emerging in which the Swiss figureheads such as Mujinga Kambundji, Selina Büchel, Nicole Büchler, Julien Wanders, Alex Wilson and Kariem Hussein can take their measure for the further preparations in view of the World Championships in September/October in Doha/Qatar.
