The internationally renowned track and field meeting Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern will take place next year on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Allmend in Lucerne. The event, which has been a fixture on the global athletics calendar since 1987, will once again attract a large number of world-class athletes to Switzerland in 2025.
This year, around seven thousand spectators provided a fantastic atmosphere in the Lucerne athletics stadium shortly before the Olympic Games. The Swiss stars in particular were celebrated frenetically. The athletics meeting is one of the thirty most important competitions on the calendar. The extensive on-site television production enables athletics fans in 95 countries around the world to follow the meeting live.
The meeting is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour and enables athletes to collect important ranking points for qualification for the 2025 World Championships. The road to the World Championships in Tokyo is a rocky one. If you want to be there, you have to qualify via the World Championships limits or a good ranking. The meeting is therefore particularly interesting for young Swiss athletes. “We want to offer young athletes from the region an international starting opportunity and introduce them to the world's best,” says Stefan Tock, Managing Director of Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern. But the points don't come for free, the Swiss athletes face the absolute best in the world in Lucerne.
Sports fans can look forward to a varied meeting day. In addition to the sprint, running, jumping and throwing disciplines, the program also includes wheelchair races and junior competitions. A training session with the stars is also planned for athletics enthusiasts the day before.
