Eugen Vifian helped write Swiss athletics history! Our Technical Director was honoured as a "History Maker" on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Swiss Athletics. He has been shaping athletics in Switzerland in numerous voluntary functions for around 50 years. Since the first staging of Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern in 1987, Geni has also been responsible for ensuring that competitions of international standard are held on the Allmend.
The rapid development of technology brought many challenges for the meeting: from the first live broadcast on Swiss television to the immediate display of the results in the stadium and the implementation on the large video wall. Eugen Vifian was always at the cutting edge of technology and thus helped to develop the meeting year after year. To this day, he is an authority in Swiss athletics as the contact person for all technical questions. It should not be forgotten that Eugen developed the competition technology on his own. At a time when information technology in athletics was still in the early stages, Eugen Vifian had already created a programme to digitally manage athletes, starting numbers, series classification, times and rankings. A true pioneering achievement!
We congratulate Eugen Vifian on this well-deserved honour from Swiss Athletics, after he was already honoured for his voluntary work by the Canton of Lucerne at the end of September! It is people like him who voluntarily work week after week at grassroots level, who shape the sport and thus make top performances possible.
Geni, without your tireless commitment and your know-how, Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern would be unthinkable in its present form. We thank you for your enormous commitment and hope to be able to count on your support for many years to come.
